The Capital Area Science and Math Center is one of the 33 regional centers in the Michigan Mathematics and Science Centers Network.  These centers provide leadership, curriculum support, professional development, and student services to educators in local school districts.  The centers also serve as a resource clearinghouse for educational materials and information, and work to foster community involvement in the areas of math and science.  The Michigan Mathematics and Science Centers Network supports the delivery of high quality mathematics and science education for the students of Michigan.
MISSION
CASM's mission is to provide leadership, professional development, and resources to improve science and mathematics education in central Michigan.

REGION SERVED
The Capital Area Science and Math Center is a working consortium with Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, and Shiawassee county education agencies, and Lansing Community College. CASM services all public schools -- including Public School Academies -- private schools, and home schools in the five county region.

CASM helps 500 area students improve their math skills in preparation for Algebra!
This spring, over 500 8th grade students from 17 schools in the CASM service area participated in the first part of Back on Track – Ready for Algebra! The BOT-RFA program identifies eighth grade students who lack core algebra skills, targets the skills and concepts they need to work on, and provides additional education, explanation, and practice in those areas – and is aligned with Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations in mathematics. Highly qualified math teachers facilitated this online experience in after school classrooms through the CompassLearning Odyssey Math program. The Michigan Mathematics and Science Center Network partnered with Michigan Virtual University to provide this opportunity to thousands of students across the state.

The second part of Back on Track – Ready for Algebra will take place this summer as hundreds of students go “camping” in a virtual setting – increasing their math skills through fun, interactive ExploreLearning “gizmos”  - innovative online manipulations. See Events page for further information or to see how you can participate in a virtual summer math camp!
